What type of entity needs to be created to buy land as a group?

I live in the same area as several guys I grew up with. We were interested in buying some land together for vactioning, hunting, fishing, etc. However, we don't want the entire loan for the land to be the responsibility of one person. I have heard the term LLC but don't know if this would be the proper route. Thanks for the help.
