How fond was General Dietrich von Choltitz of Paris?
I'm not sure if he was very fond of Paris but I think by that stage of the war (which germany was bound ti lose no matter what it did) he felt that destroying Paris was pointless in that it would accomplish nothing. In one movie I saw, the actor playing him said "If the burning of Paris would make any difference in the outcome of the war, I'd set it on fire myself.." He was apparently unwilling to destroy the great old city for nothing. Naturally, he, like other germans, had a higher opinion of French civilization than the jews.
